An interdisciplinary seminar HORIZONS OF SCIENCE is organized by scholars in natural and social sciences and humanities from several universities and academic research institutes in Lviv. It aims to serve as a meeting place where state-of-the-art problems of modern science are discussed on the level comprehensive for an ‘uninitiated’ audience. Besides obvious popularisation of scientific ideas the seminar promotes the quest for common interdisciplinary approaches to various problems. Please contact Yaroslav Hrytsak, Yurij Holovatch or Bohdan Novosyadlyj with your suggestions.

Book “Horizons of Science II: Histories of Time” / edited by Yurij Holovatch, Yaroslav Hrytsak and Bohdan Novosyadlyj. Lviv: Ukrainian Catholic University, 2020. 176 р. ISBN 978-617-7637-22-5. (in Ukrainian)

This book is the second in a series of essays based on lectures given at the monthly “Horizons of Science” seminar, which has been held at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv (Ukraine) already for thirteen years. The first book was published in 2016 (Horizons of Science. Collection of essays about science and scientists. Edited by Yu. Holovatch and Y. Hrytsak. Lviv: Ukrainian Catholic University Press, 2016. 178 pp.) The interdisciplinary seminar “Horizons of Science” forms a platform for communication and creation of a common vision between natural sciences and humanities, experienced scientists and students. This time, we offer readers a selection of articles devoted to the topic of time – as understood by representatives of various disciplines: astronomy, physics, theology, philosophy, psychology, sociology, linguistics, semiotics, history. The concept of time is difficult to formalize, even within the framework of one discipline. How our present understanding of time was formed and whether a common language between representatives of different sciences is possible while discussing this notion – these and similar questions are being sought by the authors of this book.

Book “Horizons of science (essays about science and scientists)”, Ed. by Yurij Holovatch and Yaroslav Hrytsak. Lviv, Manuscript-Lviv, 2014, 187 p. (in Ukrainian)

“Horizons of Science” is a title of an interdisciplinary seminar organized by scholars in natural and social sciences and in the humanities from several universities and academic research institutes in Lviv (Ukraine). It aims to serve as a meeting place where state-of-the-art problems of modern science are discussed. Besides an obvious popularization of scientific ideas, the seminar promotes the quest for common interdisciplinary approaches to various problems. This book has appeared as a natural continuation of the seminar. Its authors, lecturers of the seminar, leading scholars from Ukraine and abroad, now offer their ideas to a wider audience. Different chapters of the book present state-of-the-art research in different fields and relate the history of science in a style comprehensible to the general public.
